MAPLE LEAF PIANO STUDIO

About Us

Greg and Lori were voted "2019 Musicians of the Year" by the Idaho Falls Music Club and have over forty years of combined experience. We strive to personalize each lesson based on each student's variety of unique gifts, challenges, and goals.

Greg and Lori currently teach students of all ages and abilities from beginning to advanced.

Our studio is equipped with a 6’ Yamaha grand piano, a 5'11 Kawai grand piano, a Kohler and Campbell baby grand, a Yamaha baby grand Disklavier, three Yamaha Clavinova digital pianos, and a Roland FP-2 keyboard.

We are active in the Eastern Idaho Music Teachers Association as well as the Idaho Falls Music Club.

We encourage students to share their gift of music with others by providing a number of performance opportunities.  Students may choose to participate in recitals, group classes, festivals, competitions, and Guild.

Whatever the age, background, learning style, or goal, we strive to tailor lessons that will lead each student to a lifetime of music literacy and enjoyment.

BEGINNER FUNDAMENTALS

Beginning students learn from methods including Piano Adventures, Alfred Premier, and Succeeding at the Piano.  They are equipped to play along with professionally orchestrated background accompaniments through a computer program called Synthesia.  Not only does it enhance their musical experience, but it also assists in learning through evaluating their performance and measuring their accuracy and progress. Kids love the technology in our studio including iPad learning tools, computer music games, and digital pianos.

INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED

Intermediate and advanced students learn from their choice of a variety of styles from classical to jazz, church music, improvisation, popular, movie themes, and video game music.  Musicianship continues to develop through meeting a number of technical standards.  If interested, seniors who have reached advanced levels may prepare and perform a senior recital.

JAZZ

For those students interested in playing jazz, Greg teaches jazz improvisation, playing from lead sheets, chord structures unique to jazz music (diminished, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths), chord voicing, and playing in a variety of jazz styles. Prerequisites are knowledge of major scales in at least 5 keys, major/minor chord patterns, and intervals.
